Wakarusa Boogie Blog: Day One

Thursday, June 7, 2007

Welcome to Wakarusa!

It’s hot, hot, hot here at Wakarusa, and believe me, the music is even hotter! The festivities are now underway and it seems a good time is being had by all! I have so far spent my day scouring the immense and downright gorgeous festival grounds, meeting tons of the good folks who dig live music, while catching some seriously kick ass shows.

The multi-genre Wakarusa lineup offers something for everyone and plenty of it. Over 100 bands, fives stages, four days…YOWZERS! If you haven’t made it out to Lawrence, Kansas for Wakarusa yet, go ahead and put it on your calendar as a must for next year – you need to experience this!

Today’s lineup kicked things off in fine style! Papa Mali, Dubconscious, the New Mastersounds, the North Mississippi Allstars, Perpetual Groove, the Spam Allstars, Toubab Krewe, RAQ, BoomBox, the Pnuma Trio, Outformation….the list goes on and on!

Speaking of Outformation, I got a chance to speak with both C.R. Gruver and Jeff “Birddog” Lane following their smoking hot performance over at the Campground Stage. The boys will soon be headed to Colorado, where I plan to hook up with them to get the latest. Every time I see these guys, their game just gets tighter and tighter. If you have yet to familiarize yourself with Outformation, do yourself a favor and give them a listen!

MoBoogie Video Interviews

The MoBoogie team is working hard to bring the festival home to you! As the exclusive sponsor of the Wakarusa Artist Village, we will be giving you a backstage look at all of the Wakarusa action in the days ahead. Look for the first two video artist interviews to hit MoBoogie Friday – you are going to love them, trust me! Our first is with the Spam Allstars, an interview that was conducted by the lovely Tina Woo.

Our second video artist interview, conducted by the incomparable MoBoogie Mama, is with Papa Mali. Despite a few technical setbacks during the interview, the ever-gracious, beautifully spirited Papa Mali was kind enough to keep at it till we got the goods. And believe you me, we got ‘em. Papa Mali is one hell of a talented musician and he served up quite a treat for all the MoBoogiers out there. Stay tuned…

Cyndi with Papa Mali

Our interview with Perpetual Groove will go down on Friday rather than today, so you can look for that video on Saturday. We are also planning to sit down with RAQ, the New Mastersounds, Railroad Earth, Delta Nove and BoomBox on Friday, so there is plenty of action coming your way!

We also visited with many festival goers on Thursday, so look for those video fan interviews as well here on MoBoogie.net!

More coming your way...

Peace,
Cyndi
