Haynes’ cumulative contributions to Asheville Area Habitat from the annual Christmas Jam now total more than $500,000. Last December, he decided to use a portion of the proceeds from his 18th Annual Christmas Jam to build a Habitat house for displaced New Orleans musicians in that city’s “Musicians’ Village.” Construction on the house is tentatively scheduled for October 2007 and Asheville Area Habitat plans to send a team of staff and volunteers to help build it.
Asheville Area Habitat for Humanity’s mission is to change the lives of families living in inadequate housing.
Founded in 1983 as an independent affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Asheville Area Habitat builds houses within Buncombe County. Habitat's office and Home Store are located on 30 Meadow Road just north of the railroad tracks in Biltmore Village (map).
Our goal for July 2006 through June 2009 is to build an average of 16 houses per year. This means starting a new Habitat house every 23 days!
We are currently building in the Enka Hills subdivision which will be home to 55 Habitat families when complete.
